Allowing Yourself to ‘Just be’

Yesterday I experienced my first Reiki session. For those of you who don’t know what it is…like me a few days ago… it’s a Japanese technique used to help with stress relief and relaxation. One of my Entrepreneurs told me how amazing it is so I decided to give it a whirl. I’m known amongst my friends and family as someone who can’t relax so in true Jodie style I wanted to prove them wrong (and secretly myself too).

I didn’t know what to expect and was a little apprehensive but the Reiki lady was so calming when I arrived that I instantly felt relaxed. I haven’t met anyone so chilled and thought this must be good!

I laid on the bed, fully clothed, and a lovely warm blanket was put over me. She told me that it’s not massage but she used her hands in light touch motions to heal. I had to take four deep breaths and then she would start.

I’m not going to explain the whole process because the beauty of Reiki is it’s personal and individual to that person. I also don’t want to give you any preconceived ideas. But what I will say is that I gave myself one whole hour, out of my busy life, to just be. I wholeheartedly relaxed and once my mind had stopped whirling I managed to really take time to heal.

On my drive home it got me thinking. We live such busy lives and we often find it hard to take time to just be and not feel guilty for it. Interestingly I paid for that privilege yesterday which is a whole other story!

Entrepreneurs – you live such crazy lives and being on 24/7 is of detriment to your well-being. Do you take time to just be? Whether it’s Reiki, meditation ( there’s great apps like Headspace), yoga, walks in quiet areas etc. You are the only person who can look after yourself so make sure you take that time to just be because the business can wait for you to take just 10/20 minutes a day for your well-being!
